On January 28th, the New York Troop traveled to the U.S. Capital in Washington DC where they where joined by several members of the Washington Troop.

They Visited and toured the U.S. Capital Building, Visited the Armenian Embassy and spent some time in the offices of the Armenian National Committee of America. The kids participated in several mock debates and negotiations after which they where served refreshments.

Later, the two troops spent the night getting to know each other. Both troops camped at Soorp Khatch Armenian Church. They where served dinner and drinks and spent several hours playing games and discussing differences in scouting.

Sunday morning everyone got up and cleaned up the sleeping in a very organized manner. The 2 troops attended a special session of church planned specially for the scouts. After services everyone was served breakfast and said their goodbyes till the Regional Camp in August.

We drove by the National Mall for one last look at the Monuments and then we head north.

Homenetmen of New York would like to thank Soorp Khatch Church and all the members of the Washington Troop.

They took great care of us and both troops had a great time visiting interesting places in Washington and spending time getting to know each other.

The second Scout Dinner Dance was a great party. The food was great. Many friends reunited and reminiced their scouting days. The music from DJ Neptune kept the crowd dancing. Some scouts entertained us with a violin performance, Finally Robert Chilingirian brought down the house with his performance. Everyone had a great time.

July 3, 2011- Homenetmen of NY’s women’s basketball team captured its second championship in arow at this year’s Homenetmen US Eastern Regional’s games in Boston. New York defeated the hometown Boston team 21-20 for the second year in arow to win the championship. New York is coached by Tony Moussati and this makes him the only girls team coach to win 2 championships in a row.  Pictures and scores to follow shortly.

Homenetmen of New York celebrated it’s 34th Anniversary on Saturday April 30th with an Alumni Dinner Dance held at the Armenian Center. The supportive crowd enjoyed the music presented by Hayassa Band and the delicious food prepared by the Homenetmen of NY members. During the evening’s joyful event the executive committee awarded its 2010 annual awards to its members for Member of the Year, Basketball player of the year, and Soccer player of the Year.

We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event a success.

US Western Regional announced its 18th Chapter to join the Homenetmen Western Regional.  The new North Hollywood chapter has taken the name of Homenetmen Javakhk; and is the 102nd chapter to join our Worldwide growing family.
